Security Alarm

I have a 1997 W202. The security alarm started to go wrong and gave false alarms after I disconnected and reconnected the battery earth terminal. I understand that the security module is a third party supplier Scorpion which had since gone bust. MB of course denial all liabilities and would not even supply parts for it. It has got something to do with unusually high spikes everytime the earth terminal is reconnected.

I am hoping to hear from anyone able to source the module. If I replace the module do I have to replace all the infrared keys?

I started to disconnect and reconnect the security module and now it doesn't even sound the alarm if I open the boot door with my key after I have armed the alarm. One thread I read elsewhere was that it could be a worn switch on the driver door such that it not closed properly, so I started greasing all locks with grease.

Can anybody out there help?

If you disconnect the arial or radio it will trigger the alarm, even if the car is unlocked, disconnecting the earth strap, depending on how your alarm is wired will also trigger the alarm.

If the interior lights work properly on all doors and boot, it is unlikely to be the door switches that are at fault, (wait for the light to go out before you check the next door) however I would check the push switch pin that is under the bonnet and satisfy yourself that it is operating normally (pushed in) when the bonnet is shut.

Before you disconnect anything you should always first turn off the alarm via the key switch, usually under the steering wheel above drivers knees or glove box or under a cover on the alarm siren.

If you have 2 ultrasonic sensors on the dash, the can be turned off via a slider switch on the key fob, (depending on what kind of fob you have) or you could cover theme with electrical tape in case the are causing the false alarms.

You could try turning off the alarm for an hour and turn it back on, this might reset the alarm.
Scorpion alarms went out of business, if a replacement is required you will have to get a new alarm.
