Wrong section but I need a quick reply (ta)

I've sold my Vespa, buyer collecting in an hour.

I'm drafting a receipt which basically has my name and address, the date, the registration, model number and amount paid which I will sign and get the buyer to sign.

The buyer is known to me (part of a client company) and is a decent chap so I'm not too worried about him selling my data etc.

Do I need to put anything else on there? Its a private sale..

TIA

Ade

maybe say sold as seen aswell not saying vespa is faulty but may cover you for the future

was wondering about that.. don't want to sound like I'm covering something but I think you are right. There are only about 6 moving parts on the Vespa and mechanically its in fine fettle

- does 'sold as seen' actually have any legal status in a private sale or is it an implied term in the contract?

Cheers.

that bit cant help with im afraid, but i would assume it would cover you in a private sale.

Everything you said, plus VIN number and SOLD AS SEEN.

get him and yourself to sign 2 identical reciepts - you keep one - give him the other.

Thats what I did recently when parting with the previous Merc. As the buyer was going to export it to Nigeria (I think) I also did the deal at my local garage (the car was there anyway) so there were witnesses.

Ade, you seem to have everything covered and as you know the buyer there should be no problems.

Remember though that you keep the log book and let him have the green slip. Long gone are the days of 'leave it with me, I'll sign it and sort it out for you.'

After about 3 weeks you'll get confirmation from the DVLA regarding the transfer.

Well its gone (sniff)

I've had it for 7 years, its cost me peanuts to run and lost £400 in depreciation.. I've ridden to Chelmsford and Guildford on it... carried ridiculous amounts of shopping and various items of furniture, our dog, guitars and even a small tree on it and it was our main form of transport for about 3 years. As it smoked off up the hill, I feel like an episode of my life has drawn to a close :(:)
Time to start browsing the classic bike classifieds

And change my sig..

Ade :D

Don't worry, it won't have gone far....before breaking down..

My thoughts exactly - sod's law says that despite running like an oily swiss watch for the last 6 months something will fall off it later today...

To be fair - its been the most reliable and cheapest vehicle I've owned over the years.

Put the time collected on the receipt in case he gets a speeding ticket (unlikely I know ;-)

Oh, I was going suggest that you add the date & time to the receipt in case he picks up any parking tickets or speeding fines...

Speeding fines.

Guys, it's a Vespa. If he got one he wouldn't be allowing anyone else to claim that victory..

Cheeky, it'll do 50mph down hill with a tailwind. Although the little wheels are glowing red hot at this speed and it handles like a shopping trolley which makes life interesting, especially in a side wind. :D

Just cancelled my remaining insurance on the scooter. Took it out in Jan for a whopping £85.

It appears they retain 80% of premium for cancellations and charge a £30 admin fee which leaves me £17 out of pocket

Its not the amount but the principle... is this normal - its Bennetts btw?

Ade

In my experience, on lots of motor policies yes. Very few offer a pro-rata cancellation (you're 50% of the way through a 12-month policy) and you tend to get charged for any "amendment" nowadays.

If you have any other business written through Bennetts you may like to remind them of that and that you'll be inclined to look elsewhere come renewal time, but that's about all I can think of to use as a lever.

For 17 quid I've got better things to do... but it is a bit of liberty on their part.. I guess it is another example of the 'modern world'

You mean it'll cost you a further £17 on top of the premium to cancel?

Thats just barking!

Can you not just put the policy on hold pending a replacement bike? Failing that, just let the insurance run.

Yep and thats pretty much what I told the customer services bod who kindly gave me the address write to..

They can give me 30 days to blend the cover into a new bike policy which I don't need as I'm not replacing the Vespa as I still have the S.. And apparently they won't let it run as it could get messy should there be a claim by the new owner..

If it was for more money I'd take it further.. as it is I'll just winge about it on here :p

Not for you, it won't. There is no bar whatsoever (that I'm aware of) that says you can't hold an insurance policy on a vehicle you don't own - think vehicle on HP - or aren't the Registered Keeper of. Tell them you have no intention of paying them one penny to cease cover and that they can go hang.
