Hi guys & gals :)

i'm new to this 'car telling me when a service is due' thing & was very surprised when i got in the car earlier today to be told "A Service due within 30 days"!

she's only just over 6 months old & 3820 miles  but i suppose that could be the reason too, mainly shorter journeys & perhaps only once a week for a decent length of drive out.

i love the car to bits, but with the low MPG (around the 20 mark) & if this is the way the servicing is going to go, i feel even more :(

does anyone have an idea how much this service will cost at a Merc Dealer?

any comments would be appreciated :o

Servicing with MB really is so screwed up.

Surely a car this new should be on fixed interval 12mth/15,500 miles services?

I wonder if ASSYST hasn't been reset by the dealer at the PDI and the car is counting 12mths from its build date??

I would presume so too. Servicing varies, I think an A service may cost upto £800

Good grief no! A Service is a pretty standard £250ish. My local dealer, part of the InchCape group, continously advertises A services for £199.

I can't believe just an A service has ever cost £800:eek:

My 'A' service at 18 months cost £264. Assyst waited until 11000 miles before switching from miles to time relationship.

Is an A service a full service?

No, its an "A" service:D :D :D :D

It is the interim service, the B service is the full service.

But even a normal B service should only be about £450.

Needing brake fluid change (every 2yrs or so, so usually done with a B service) would bump it up a bit).

I see. My mistake, I was referring to a B service. Nevertheless it is only an estimate, checking my last service receipt I paid almost £800 due to my car reaching 100,000miles to change many of the parts

thanks for all the quick replies! :D

after i'd picked myself up off the floor after the £800 bit :p , i'm hoping it is the ASSYST that hasn't been reset (or something). how silly i am thinking the darn thing actually took note of driving style/miles covered etc

i'll give Merc Derby a call tomorrow to see what they have to say for themselves...

thanks again

I bet the £800 scared you pretty well :D

Could be a fault with Assyst, so ask them why it is due at such a low mileage. They may just change the oil and filter for "free".

That sounds crazy, my clk was last serviced at MB in November '06, it's still telling me 3200 miles to A service.

thanks for the extra replies :)

i'm popping into Inchcape Mercedes, Derby tomorrow afternoon, the service dept. said it definitely shouldn't need servicing at this age/miles, so probably just an assyst 'reset' needed (and a free wash while you're at it! :p ).

Jadefox - glad i'm not the only one! oh well, it was an excuse to start early anyway, i normally partake in a light refreshment or two to go along with my enjoyment of the chaps on 'the apprentice'! :D
