I'm currently hunting for a used C-Class. When buying used BMWs in the past, a friendly service engineer was able to check the main dealer history of the potential purchase for me from the reg. or VIN number, including recalls, updates and so on.

Is this possible for Mercedes? Via a known method or anyone on this site? Any help appreciated.

yes, mercedes customer service over on the continent will have access to all details after the systems were run on databases..

official service history should be available for last few yrs, but in some cases, the system is not with out fault as many services down in my checks have official paperwork backed up by dealer but not on central system.. its all a bit pants for such a top marque, but overall, the system via each dealer is solid.

eg.. service for my w124 is on the system of the supplying dealer, but not on the system for mercedes benz uk. etc etc

Thanks for that. Do the MB dealers tend to be amenable to an enquiry at the service desk, considering no sale in it for them, "data protection" issues  etc.?

Or would I need to access the continental system you mention? Which would be a little pants as you say...

If they have it, they should be able to print out a list of work done, as opposed to giving you a copy of the invoice.

Thanks MD5. I should clear what I'm saying here. When looking at used BMWs in the past, I would ring a service manager I knew at a BMW dealership. He would enter the vehicle reg. or VIN into their system, then would read off to me any services completed or recall/warranty work issues undertaken on the car. This system was good for the whole UK dealership network (assuming all relevant details had been entered of course).

A particular C270 CDI I am interested in is said to have a full MB service history and has apparently had the well-known radiator mod undertaken, supported by "paperwork".

Going to see the vehicle involves a long trip, so I was hoping for a way to make my own checks first if possible. I don't yet know the actual dealer(s) at which any work has been completed.

Unless you are the owner of the car I very much doubt MB will supply these details through "official" channels??:dk:

My point was that work carried out (and printable) will remain oblivious to ownership. Invoices will be specific to ownership, therefore subject to data protection.
