Hi everyone,

2003 CL600TT W215

Just coming up to 4 months now with the CL and enjoying every minute. Mpg is 26+ on normal runs and 23+ even on short runs from cold, so better than hoped.

Servicing .......... last one was B service in Nov 2012 and we're now 2 years on but the service indicator says 4300 miles to the next one. As you can tell, I take things pretty easy ......... honest!;)

The electronic oil check says level is fine ......... most of the time. A couple of times it has said "add 1 litre to max" but then the next time says it is fine. There is no dipstick to check in the good, old-fashioned way.

So, 2 issues ............ should I book it in for the A service now, or wait until the service indicator says so? That'll probably be another year, at least.

And the oil level .......... anyone encountered this and can advise, please?

What's an A service likely to cost, please?

Thanks,

Stuart

Your car's ASYST Plus is on flexible service schedule, as are all Mercs up to 2007.

Just wait till it tells you it needs a service.

If your annual mileage is low, it will switch to time-based service soon and you will see a message saying '30 days to next service' etc in spite of the fact that there will still be plenty of miles left.

I doubt that it will go more than two years between servicing, so expect one soon.

The cost on an A Service is around £150-£200 from an on independant, or £250-£300 from an MB dealer, though some dealers will match Independants' prices.

But keep in mind that A and B services are only oil and filter services - there are additional items that may be required depending on your car's mileage and age:

Spark plugs (if Petrol)
Air filter
Fuel filter
Cabin filter
Brake fluid
Coolant (unless long-life coolant)
ATF (if automatic)

As for oil level, you should be able to purchase a dipstick and check the oil level in the old fashioned way.

The risk is actually both in under-filling and over-filling, so if you do not have a dipstick and the car says add 1Kg, then add half that amount and see if the car is happy.

Fixed that for you :thumb:

Thanks guys.

Car has done just over 6,000 miles since the last service but it's got full service history to date and I was wanting to keep that up.

The oil ....... think I'll look out for a dipstick ........ had a look on ebay when I got the car but couldn't find one mine - has anyone come across them? Should I just go to a MB dealer?

Thanks again,

Stuart
