Well pleased, I just saved £80 on my servicing by shopping around. Most seem to offer price matching but Merc at Harrogate offered a reduction of £80 without prompting!!!! Now that is service, and no, I don't work for them!

Also noticeable was the fact this last quote was £50 MORE expensive than an independent who quoted £225 + vat + brake fluid change (if it needs it!) which of course it does to maintain warranty! Check before you buy!

If your car is under 4 years old it will make your life easier in case of a claim if the car has full MB service history, in spite of Bloc Exemption etc.

After that it's for each his own... there's Mobilo and anti-perforation warranty to consider, but otherwise it is pretty much open season, just shop around and go by recommendation.

Was quite surprised though by the independents claim of ' if it needs'.Ford warranty years ago stipulated brake fluid change at two years. Agree main dealer servicing looks better, as Harrogate say 'it's cut throat at mo' if there is a genuine saving to be had at independent then go for it, otherwise stick to dealer.

Some mechanics suggest that instead of replacing the brake fluid as a matter of course , the fluid's condition should be tested (for water contents) using hygrometer and the fluid only changed if need be.

But this does not comply with manufacturers' instructions and at any rate is false economy.

Also, brake fluid does not circulate much so the condition of the fluid in the reservoir may be different than in the caliper.
