Sharing quotes for Automatic Transmission Fluid W204 -

How much choice do you get with the emissions update.

I need my 7G transmission oil changed this year but i really do not want the emissions update.

Don't go to a main dealer for it . Simple . 👍

I’ve probably had 200 main dealer health checks over the last 10 years or so - across four different main dealers - and I’ve never once been told that work needed to be done, nevermind been told that work needed to be done that was unnecessary.

That doesn’t t mean that some people in some main dealers don’t abuse it. That said the trade off for them spending time on my car for free is that they’re in with the first chance to quote for any potential work. It doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.

The only time I've ever been told that a job needs doing, was when I had the tyres changed on the Kia at a local ATS Euromaster branch and the chap said "the discs need changing mate" (which was bollocks, because the car was regularly serviced by the Kia main dealer and the discs and pads routinely checked and they never needed replacing).

My cars had many 'free health checks' over the years at MB, Hyundai, and Suzuki dealers, and no faults were ever found (though MB Brooklands did say the the TIREFIT goo was out of date, and they didn't find the first aid kit to inspect the expiry date, so perhaps there was a subtle upselling attempt there...)

The way I understand the 'never replace all of the transmission fluid' thing is this.

It relates to older type of high mileage transmissions that have zero history of being serviced and have just been topped up from time to time , I think some advocate draining the old fluid out and filling the box with 50/50 mix of the old and new fluid.

Personally if I had a transmission that needed old fluid in it to keep it working I would rather have it removed and repaired or fit a new transmission.

Mercland in Nuneaton are good. Jay knows his stuff and has been around the forums for many years.
The receptionist is well known for coming across a bit untoward.
That doesnt change the service the get in the garage.
A bit off putting sure - as she is the interface to the customer.

I want the trans done properly though 😮‍💨 i mean my local mechanic could probably do it but i don't want any **** ups and it would be good to have mercedes to have done it for my service history

I had mine done by a Merc independent ( properly ) 😉who also has access to mb service sheet data , he included the gearbox service to the cars data. I also received a printed off copy for my records.Something you should ask for if shopping about .

The ratio is closer to 80/20 , maybe 70/30 if being pedantic comes into it.

We are £348 Inc vat, full change including TC and genuine parts.
We would charge £95 + VAT (£114) for an inspection that includes a written report and a Xentry check.

If you want an inspection, id recommend paying a bit extra for an A service, as this covers a lot of things on the inspection, and also another stamp in the book!

Good advice 👍🏻

I rang Mercland - they say its a full drain, about 9 litres, but they do not replace the TC - should I be interested in replacing the TC?

IF they did carry out a unauthorised software update, can it be deleted and previous version be installed?

I think I read somewhere on here it can’t be rolled back as MB put some kind of a block on it?

I’ve seen the question asked many times, but I have only ever heard one response, and that such updates cannot be rolled back.

It can't be rolled back. But a new map can be overwritten to the ECU. There's plenty up here having a remap with egr, dpf, ad blu and nox delete, so it's definitely do able.

You are opening up the can of worms again😄

Sadly no.

A member here was even offered financial compensation for the increased mpg, when the dealer carried out the update in spite of being told not to do so - i.e., the dealers can't roll back the software.

However, engine tuners (not dealers) might be able to do it, but they'll charge the customer for this, obviously.
