- E350 2015 9g AMG Prem Plus, previously C63
After a relatively short wait of three months (which seemed like an eternity at the time) my new ride finally arrived on Friday.
I opted for a Black C63 Estate with Sand/Black interior and no optional extras.
The supplying dealer was in Exeter, so she had to be driven up to North Wales, a trip that knocked 300 miles off the run in period so I can feel a bit better about breaking the rules now and again
The driver called me at 9:20 saying he will be with me in an hour or so, what I did next seems a bit embarrassing now, but I couldn't help myself at the time - I stood by an upstairs window from 10:00 to 10:40 waiting to see her come up the road Last time I did that I was about 5 and waiting for my grandmother to arrive with my birthday presents.
The car was rather wet and dirty when she arrived, so I was a bit worried that I was accepting delivery without really being able to see if there was any damage on the car. The driver made a note of the conditions on the acceptance form so that made me feel a bit better. As it happens, I've washed the car 3 times now and have yet to find a single blemish on the paintwork although it has to be said, the standard of paintwork is not the highest I've seen, but it seems to be the norm these days on modern cars - I'm not complaining, just an observation.
So, what do I think? Well, simply put, the car is stunning - the performance is spectacular for a family sized estate, for a rear wheel drive, she's very well behaved, the car doesn't flinch with the type of driving that would have had my Maserati on its roof in a ditch. I've yet to explore the performance fully, I'll wait for the run in period to end and I'll go and find myself somewhere quiet and safe to properly learn about how the car handles, especially in the wet.
In terms of the colour combo, I'm very pleased with it, I was quite nervous about going for the two tone sand and black, but I'm so glad I did it - the colour really suits the car and makes it look a bit more special than a plain black interior.
Regarding the toys, bells and whistles I'm quite glad I managed to stay disciplined and keep off the options list - for anyone in any doubt, the standard car has more than enough toys and features to keep even a technology geek like me happy. It took me an hour or so to figure out how to get the command online services to work with my Galaxy S2 phone, I ended up having to install an app that creates a bluetooth modem connection which does the trick, but only seems to work at GPRS speeds - I'll keep hacking away and let you all know if I find a better method. Although, after the initial fun of using google streetview to show me a picture of my destination, I'm not so sure that I’ll use the online apps much.
The build quality seems fine, there are no unwelcome squeaks or rattles, the only minor niggle I have is the bonnet doesn't lock in place on the passenger side unless I close it with some considerable force (about 600 psi?? ) with my hand placed above the location of the passenger side latch. I’m not too bothered about that, I may ask my local dealer to take a look at some point though –perhaps it’s supposed to be like that?
I’m probably boring everyone with my ramblings now, so I’ll stop. I’ve put a couple of crap mobile phone pictures up, but I’ll get some proper ones done after the Swissvax man has been on Friday .
Drive safely and be nice to each other.
