Side Vents On Sl

Does anyone know how to remove the side vents on the SL R230? I noticed 2 screws and unbolted them but the vent is still tightly fastened!

Does anyone know if the side vents on AMG SL have an actual purpose? I noticed on my SL350 that the vents are actuall blanked off.
