I had a broken side light so fitted a new bulb and then a new bulb holder with no joy.

The problem was traced today to a small component in the wire which was getting hot. It has been cut out and replaced with some spade connectors so the light is working.

Can anyone tell me what the component is and if I need to buy one and put it back in the circuit?

Thanks, Peter.

It's a resistor.

I can't understand it being there unless someone fitted LED bulbs.

Ditto on that.

Probably overheated with the increased current draw of a standard bulb, i hate people using these I've seen way too much wiring damage.
