SL 500 R230 Hardtop, stop it clattering/banging ?

Thanks for taking the time to read this query,

I picked up a 2003 SL500 on Friday, I have noticed that every time I travel over a small or large bump in the road the roof seems to clatter/bang in various places, is this normal or can it be fixed ?

In all probability I won't be using the car with the hood down, is there a permanent way to secure the hood to the screen pillars/top or can you purchase a permanent hard top ?
