Hi all, my new to me E500 has a set of these in 17inch.

They are incredibly heavy! Like ridiculous, with a toyo 245/45 17 tyre they are significantly heavier than our Range Rover 20inch with a 275 tyre!!!!

I have noticed that the ride quality is not as good as my older much shonkier E500 with 18inch staggered wheels. The wheels feel leaden and `heavy`. I`m wondering if thats all down to the wheels, obviously the tyres impact the ride as well....

Are these wheels known to be super strong (unlike many MB alloys!) and hence the weight???

My normal 17“ MB wheels on both my cars are also shockingly heavy .

Heavy wheel tyre combos will affect ride quality and the suspensions ability to follow the contours of the road.....all down to the important "sprung to unsprung " weight ratio. Basically the lighter all the parts that move up and down when you hit a bump are as a percentage of all the parts that don't, the better!

Yes exactly.

However I guess there's not much difference in vehicle weight between the E500 and equivalent SL. They both have airmatic, so maybe its the tyres?

I might try a swap to the older 18s and see. Although they have even crappier tyres on them!!!!
