Sl r129 door lock

Hello, went to get into my car and the drivers door lock wont turn with the key........it works on the latch inside the car but you cant use the key.......key works ok in all other doors still.....took door card off and cant see anything that has come adrift and cn see it all working.............so i think maybe the handle/barrel may need replacing...any thoughts

If a new barrel and therefore key needed. Is it possible to put the passenger door barrel into the drivers door therefore just needing the original key most of the time, ie drivers door and boot?

Go to to your local Mb dealership armed with your V5, passport and a utility bill and they will order you a new barrel to match the other barrels on your car. Door card does not need to come off. See my locks post in HowTo's.

Passenger door also has a barrel...

Phoned MB today....can get a new barrel for £28 + VAT or get one ordered to fit my original key at a cost of £158 + VAT

Hmmm, interesting. When did they stop fitting barrels on the pax door then?

You can swap the barrels around... at least you can on a W126 so cant imagine its any different.

I don't know if it's from the 96 facelift onwards, or MBSS related, but my 96 SL doesn't have passenger door lock, but does have MBSS. The driver's door still has the plastic insert cover in the barrel, which confused me when I first bought it, as I didn't know what it was.

Definitely stopped before then, mine is a 95. Could well be MBSS-related.
