I know it's supposed to to this to warm the cats, but it gets a bit embarrassing. Pull out of the drive, gentle gradient downhill and it holds onto 2nd gear for a couple of hundred meters.
The engine feels like it's revving it's nuts off circa 3k @ 30-40mph. It'll then change up and everythings good. It's just the 1st 2nd to 3rd change of the day.

I've tried easing off the accelerator a little to encourage and up shift, accelerating briskly works, but isn't really an option, driving up a gradient helps, but I live at the top of a hill.:wallbash:

What do you do? Or do you just put up with it

It doesn't bother me but you could select W (winter) on the gearbox, then it will set off in 2nd ...

I just ease-off to help the box shift up... and live with it.

It won't shift up that way when it is in this mode MJ. There is a defeat for this somewhere by the brake booster/fuse box area IIRC... Do a search...

Mine has done the same for 19 years. When it first hits 3500 RPM, it settles down to normal operation. I can see that, if you drive downhill, it'll take a while to hit 3500 RPM but I'm afraid you're stuck with it if you leave the car standard.

Maybe drive up the hill instead?

I think accelerate harder :D I live at the top of a hill, I just don't like roaring away from the house into the village. :D

I suppose the answer is leave the car in the village and roar away from it.
