hi

The Mercedes Benz Club are holding their annual SL Rally this weekend.

Anyone on here going?

cheers

Derek

I've not yet got round to joining :o

Although we're busy both days this weekend anyway.

I'm one of two 129 500s (the other a Silver Arrow) being joined by a 300 24v on the M3 tomorrow, convoying to the "drive" from Stilton tomorrow afternoon (as you know Derek!).

My SL is looking forward to the road trip. We are camping in a tent saturday night.

800+ mile round trip all told probably.

i'm crying at the thought of the fuel costs involved!

I'm going to miss it this year. On the Santander ferry on Sunday. :bannana:

I've been to the last few, but unfortunatley Im busy this weekend.

Hope the weather stays dry, and have fun. :thumb:

Id love to have brought the Silver Arrow to this, but a family wedding this weekend means Im already away.

I will be there on Sunday......:thumb:

What are the entry costs?

What are the entry times?

Will there be "goodies" to buy?

Off on Holiday Monday, but may be able to squeeze this in.

Brian.

Well I am back after the 1000 mile round trip in the SL to Sandringham. (Coming from Scotland).

A great night time drive (1st time driven SL in proper darkness!) after work to Wolverhampton where I stopped overnight at my Brother's house. We then both went onto Stilton on the Saturday morning for the Road Run. Superb route and perfect directions.

On the Road Run my mileometer did this (Sorry RH!):

Then we went onto the campsite that we planned to stay overnight at in a tent. The 107 attracted lots of comments and looks from the campers on the site - the campsite owner said he was going to send some people over to the rally on the Sunday...

The sunday we got up and had a fry-up before packing away the tent to get to Sandringham estate for 11am when the Rally starts. Unfortunatly, we are quite low on fuel, so I thought we would find a petrol station to fill up at. Following sat nav we went to about 5 stations that were closed down when we actually got there. It got quite desperate in the end but found one and filled the tank.

Then it was onto the rally (about 12ish by this time). The sun was shining all day and all the cars had the roofs down. After the rally we went back to Wolverhampton, and managed to have the top down the whole way. On Monday morning I continued the journey back to Scotland - roof was down 1st 100 miles or so until it started to rain. I was surprised that i could drive in the rain and not get wet at 70mph for a bit until a service station appeared on the M6. When I got home the SL was washed, dryed and put back in my garage.

The car was fantastic all the time (apart from the fuel consumption!) and the passenger wiper blade gave up the ghost 50 miles from home.

I noticed that my SL had the highest miles on a 107 there (although unfortunatly this wasnt one of the "booby prizes"!

I took part in the driving tests but predictably, I didnt win :D After someone braved the test in a S500L W140 i thought there is no excuse to try it in my 107 :D

Anyway, here are some of the photos:

Guess how much it is to tax a SLS AMG?

An inspiration for the SLS demonstrates, on its way out, that simple is best, when it comes to air con!!

It's worth the membership fee for this event alone.

Hi Mike.

Sorry I didnt get a chance to catch up with you on the Sunday... the time seemed to go really quickly.

We never caught up after stopping for the fish & chips on the Road Run either, but then again you do have a 500 and i have a 280.

I did try though ;)

I hope you got your roof down on the run. We did all of the way (put it up after the chips )

Derek, I was following Steven in his Silver Arrow, and he pulled over to put the roof up during a brief down pour. I didn't want to embarrass him, so did the same.:o:o I cringed as we became sandwiched between half a dozen SLKs and 129s, all with their roofs down. I couldn't get topless quick enough after that!

On my way home down the M6 I had the roof down and then it started to rain. No rain came in as I was travelling pretty fast. Lots of strange looks though! 20 miles worth until next service station came up. Only concern was if I hit a traffic jam and had to stop in the downpour!

Richard enjoyed the rally and did some of the driving on the run and most of the drive back to his house from Sandringham.

Wasnt impressed with the fuel consumption though so managed to avoid buying one of the few that were for sale on the day.

My fav was the gold coloured 107.

Looks like a great day.

I was judging at a dog agility show down in the New Forest on Sunday and took the SL ... roof stayed down all day :)
