SL55 Distronic Star/Badge issue

Hi there. My brother is looking at an SL55 AMG (with distronic) which has a bit of an issue with the front Star/Badge. In the bottom sector of the badge behind the perspex/plastic, the black (whatever its made of) seems to be peeling away. Im sure this does not effect the operation of the distronic function but clearly it does not look too nice. We called MB and they inform us that to get a new badge it means getting a new grille which is approx £430.00. Has anyone been through the mill on this issue or come up with any bright ideas or solutions?
