Hi guys,

Looking to get my first MB and a work friend is selling his wifes car

06 SLK 200 manual
8500 miles
metalic
heated leather seats
upgraded 16" alloys
airscarf
cup holders
wiper sensors

£25,000 is this a good buy ??????

any help would be fantastic.

Hi and welcome. According to Glass's Guide that's about the trade-in value of the car, assuming it's in excellent condition (for a car of that age, basically as new). Look around at other cars though ... on the Mercedes-Benz website you can search their 'Approved Used' cars - which of course come with a 1st class warranty.

First thing I would ask is why is he selling it. As Bill has said the price is about right except from the MB dealers about 27/28 from them. Nice little car the 16" do not look great on them 17" at least.

Go drive the 200 first and see what you think if it. I think it's gutless and a bit weedy. The 280 is a much better option if you can get one. imho

Welcome btw;)

And its manual

But it will be a kompressor presumably so should be Ok.

As long as the car is in good order and it's what you want then buy it as it will be the cheapest you will get, and still has balance of manufacturers warranty so no disadvantage to the private sale.

Welcome to the forum!

As for whether it's a good deal I think that's been answered, it's about right but for it to be a good deal nearer to 22-23k would be nicer :D

Main thing is whether the spec is right, I personally wouldn't go for a manual, the 200 K (Kompressors) do perform pretty well, however it depends upon how you're going to use it (type of driving & annual mileage) as to whether the engine & gearbox combo is right for you.

Good luck & keep us all posted. Even if you don't by that one stick around on the forum to learn more about Mercs and the people behind the wheel...

Personally I think that it is a tad over priced. Is it an ''06'' 2006 year or a ''56'' 2006 year? The spec adds up to about £2000 in todays money and some of the items are not what you might call ''essentials'' clearly though some are like leather/airscarf/heated seats. A 200K new is £28,525 so, even if you pay the going rate you would be looking at £30,500'ish maybe. At the moment you can get about 5.5% discount on new so that would make it £28,800 and maybe a little less with some serious haggling so let say £28,000?.

For £28,000, an extra £3000, you could be looking at new and probably get some options that were more up your street?

I think that it needs to be at least two to three, (preferably three;) ) less than what it is to make it financial sense.

I'm feeling like that was the most negative post that I have ever made but sadly personal experience tells me that its true.

Silver 280 going, Black 280 coming  , possibly in September ;) . You wanna' buy mine?

Portzy.

I'd like to register my complete enjoyment of a recent SLK280 drive weekend. Couldn't have wiped the smile off my face with a house brick.

Hello,

While some people say a manual SLK is ok, manual mercs are generally not great and have a lower resale as most owners prefer Auto.

I agree with others who suggest the 280 but then its easy for me to say that, I don't know how much more this would be?

What do you currently drive? as the 200 will be ok, depends what your expecting. Best thing take it for a drive and see what you think. If your convinced its for you (ooh and it will definately need 17's at least for looks) 16" will be lost in the arches.

Offer 23K and start walking away,

Good luck

I drove both the 200 and the 280 and there was no comparison. I just got my 06 280 with auto, leather, heated and air scarf and the upgraded 16's with 9k on the clock for 29000 well pleased with it.

I have a manual SLK and love it - it is a 350 rather than a 200 though
