Hi

I am thinking about changing the mirrors on my SL from the standard ones to the SLK repeater mirrors?

Is it a tough/costly job and is it worth it or should I keep the car original..
I just cant decide??

The only mods that I have done so far are the Pedals, Center Caps and Sat Nav.. nothing to drastic or irreversible.

More a question of whether the SLK ones will fit / be compatible with the wiring in your car, rather than whether you should do it. It will always be reversible - i.e. you can put the old ones back on if you come to sell it.

Wiring up for the blinking shouldn't be any more complex than two wires on each side though, if the 210 mirrors that I've fitted to my 202 are anything to go by.

Assuming they will fit, then costly I should think, unless you can source the mirrors cheaply.

SLK/CLK mirrors should go straight onto an R129 SL without problems :)
Won't be too costly if you get some second hand ones.

What is the price from the stealers for these? and what other decent alterntives are there?

I have the curved mirrors that are the same as the SLK/CLK ones so is it possible to just change the back or do the whole mirrors need to be changed?

The mirror shell with integrated indicator won't fit on a non-indicating mirror frame, another member of this forum has already tried it! You will need to swap the whole mirror unit. I don't advise buying brand new in this case as it makes for a very expensive mod, see if you can get some second hand mirrors from a breaker or MBenzNL.

The SLK and CLK mirrors do not fit a R129 straight away as the covers on the mirror console at the door are different and the boltpattern is slightly different.

Covers with blinkers have 4 screws that hold the cover, with glass suround frame to the aluminum mirror console where as non blinking mirrors (R129, R170, W208, W168) only have 3 screws...2 of these screws are the same...the other 1/2 are different.

As you already have the oval shaped 129 mirrors - go the easy way and get yourself the blinking covers with glass suround frames which will fit after a small modification...I have plenty of (new) blinking covers with blinkers but don't have any glass surround frames...

With frames I am refering to the silver colored surounds in the piucture linked HERE.

Hi MbenzNL, I have a 2002 A160, I'd be keen to replace the original mirror casings with the mirror repeaters. I beleive this is quite straightforward as:

1. The A210 evolution had them anyway
2. as does the 2003+ A Class.
3. Doesn't need any 'expensive' body mods as the A class has push in emblems with the model inscription (Elegance, Avantgarde, Evolution etc) to cover the space of the original indicators.

Any ideas whether your casings will fit, what else do I need?

Thanks
