slk r171 driver door locking

Just tried to unlock the car and the drivers door will not operate with the remote. Boot and passenger door work fine, i am having to use internal door pop up to lock door.
Have read about a pump system on central locking, i thought there would be an electric solenoid to open doors and boot.
Can anyone enlighten me.

Update, the drivers door mirror is not working. Weather is too bad to investigate so i decided to lock the door with the key, inside the remote, and now everything is back to normal.
Time for a beer.
