VED is one thing that annoys me about my R171 SLK280 - IIRC it's £420pa! Also look for paint bubbling on the bottom front corners of the front wings, the brackets MB used to attach the wings are crap and rust, and that continues through to the bottom front corner of the wings just above the front bumper - and apparently is an awkward and thus pricey problem to fix (please don't ask how I know!!).

Had a 2009 SLK200 (R171) for 7-years. Enjoyed it very much and met some great people too via the SLKworld forum. Heard lots of 'hairdresser' comments, but 'yawn'.... Still a great car, that went so much better than most people might think.

I know someone with a 2013 diesel (probably the 250 as it's quite quick). She's had it since it was a couple of years old. No problems at all. Headlamps are apparently a bit weak but much improved with a bulb change. One problem with a seat sensor too I think. Overall it's been great.
