Smoky SL55

I took my smoky SL to MB. Apparently the oil level was high. Of course I had no way of detecting this. I've ordered a dip stick - I'm very puzzled why the car is not sold with one? Anyway seems this was the cause, now the oil level is normal starts ups are normal.

Don't know if you saw my recent sorry story about smoky exhausts. It started out like you describe.

Can you check and see if you have an oil separator ? Of you do, open it and see if it's swimming in oil. If so, this might be your problem.
In my case, the oil wasn't getting separated from the gas and being fed into the turbo.

I documented how to diagnose / rectify this. Would have saved me a few hundred quid if I'd done this in the first place.
