So what did YOU do to improve your Mercedes this weekend?

Polished the rust and thought about changing the new brake pads i've had for a few months, decided on watching the Grand Prix instead.

Splashed out on a new 019 Bosch battery , the old one with an iffy cell is still good enough to start my mothballed Diesel polo , and fits after tweaking the plastic tray( so kind of two for the price of one !)

Put over 1200 miles on it at the weekend, over 2500 over the last week, visiting Bremen,Nurburgring,Remagen,Brussels,Dunkirk and finally Calais. I'll have to wash it now!

You should have asked what I did last weekend....

This weekend I replaced one of the front alloys which was damaged from a rather largish pothole meeting said alloy at warpish speeds. Not a good combination. The sad part was I knew it was going to happen seconds before impact and there was nothing I could do to avoid it. :(

However, I then spent a whole Sunday washing, using a clay bar and polishing to the 'perfect' shine you see on the attached picture. :) It looked great for the remaining 1 hour of daylight shortly before it decided to rain.....heavily! It always seems to rain if I put too much effort into polishing the car...

...and then it rains. :p

Seriously, that is some extreme car care! I only hope to match him on the clay bar part other than that I appreciate the extreme perfection he attempts to achieve. From a distance, on the road, to any passer by, the law of diminishing returns sets in after you add a clay bar process to waxing.

Plus there is no way the shine is for life as any new car can attest to that! Unless you plan to never drive it. :)

That looks the absolute dogs...

Ended up putting 4 tyres on . . . dont ask how much!
Gulp!
Oh and they have decided to change all 4 alloys for me for free (circa £4,500) . . nice chaps at warranty merc :o) . .luv ya!

Booked it in for a paintwork treatment, including sorting out some stone chips, removing its myriad swirl marks (along with a couple of light scratches) and finishing off with a paint sealant. The magic is due to happen next weekend, and I'm quite looking forward to it.

Hi Mocas

Can you suggest a good place in West London/Heathrow for bodywork. Can you give me an idea of what you got done (you mentioned scratches/swirls etc) and how much it cost?

Cheers

Fitted the new Mb plugs X6 then changed the rad breather pipe connector that had broken in 2 with the new one i had in the centre console for around half a year. To finish i (eventually) made all 4 speakers work and then celebrated by listing 80s groove i just downloaded from i tunes!!

I, on the other hand fitted a new air filter :D

Saving myself the princely sum of £54 over dealer price for the same job.

No GTG to go to, I had a good time in London watching the street entertainers at Covent Garden, it was so barmy 20 degrees, the last day of Indian summer. About to go home at 6pm, Boris festival parade and fireworks closed the embankment road home, have to wait until past 10.30pm for the road to reopen.

Load of other happy road users towing their boats home.

I drove mine up to Aberdeen. It was what the car was built for. Then I got dumped, so I drove it home and it made me feel a bit better. The improvement, one less treacherous madam to go in it.

Then I got dumped

:ban:

Bad luck Steve.

Plenty more fish in the sea. ;)
