I have just requested and received a brochure for the ZO6 and the C6 coupe and convertible as i am looking to probably replace my car.

Surprised to see that the C6 convertible is lighter than the coupe by 1 kg.
I thought that most convertibles were heavier due to the rigidity loss in chopping the roof off , and compensating for that by adding extraweight elsewhere.

It is fast though, very fast

Go for the fixed head car. Its undeniably very fast, and depsite leaf spring suspension good in the corners too.

I just don't know if I'd swap a 911 for one. Have you looked at Audi R8's or Jag XKR?

If you want a bang per buck machine go for a Monaro or VXR8 - the suffering caused by the badge reflects well in the wallet of those who buy secondhand :)

the waiting list for the R8 is unbelievable. Not yet looked at the XKR but it is the simple mechanics of the C6 that is interesting me, and the parts/servicing/ costs is so seriously cheap.

Even though you haven't been here long I am not surprised you suggested it, it must all be in the username ;)

It is a sterling suggestion but not one for the new car buyer. IIRC the engine is the same "small block" V8 as in the C6.

For the same money though I'd be tempted by a used E55 (W211), used BMW M5 or even an Audi RS6 used.

Would never recommend either VX bought new, you're right (unless a VX dealer is turning a demonstrator)

They have just bored a little more out of the engine; 2008 VXR8s are 6.2 litres now!

M5 saloons are under £40k now (at BMW dealers)!

yes the m5 is good but i want a manual box not a flappy paddle or semi auto. so all amgs are out

Its a seriously tempting bet if you have £40k for a car and money for maintanence etc. It still has a fair bit to drop yet. My boss @ work reckons he'll plump for one c. £30k.

The OP wants a normal manual. There goes my Audi RS6 suggestion.

Wait a minute, what about that RS4, they gotta be under 40 grand and manual. If not there is the overlooked S4.

I thought with the kind of torque of the cars you're talking about an auto box ceases to be a hindrance - and most are switchable if you do want to mess about in an urban environment
