Soon-to-be B180CDi SE driver

As has been said above - the auto gearbox is great, and you will be very happy with the B180 CDI, I'm sure. Are you going for auto or manual ?

In addition to what Alfie has stated above, get one with Comfort Seats if you can - its a very cheap option and adds height adjustment to the passenger seat and adjustbale lumbar support for both driver and passenger.

My only regrets are not getting parking sensors - which it needs despite not being a huge car - as the visibility at the rear is very hard to judge - although have got used to it after 8 months ! Anything else worth having is retro-fittable :)

Only quirks seem to be a 'clunk' noise coming from the passenger seat mounting area on acceleration and braking - which may be because my seats were removed to have the leather retro-fitted and not re-installed quite right (!) - will be getting this checked out ....

...and some trim peeling off the outside of the driver's door - which seemed to happen in our very hot summer - which I'll be getting the dealer to replace.

Enjoy the car.

I will be getting the 6 speed manual.
options I added with the order:
- artico seats
- metallic paints
- louvred electric sunroof
- interior light package
- seat comfort package.
- all SE options.

thanks!

Standard with the Auto .... not quite sure how well it works with a manual - never had a manual car with Cruise ....

anyone here hates/doesn't like the kmh digital display (UK version)?
I think it's a waste of space!

The cluster can be coded to remove UK variant option, although the dealer will probably be reluctant to do this for you.

When re-coded, you can choose with the menus to either have the temperature there instead, or either mph or kph - as it normally looks.

When you are showing the temperature on that line, you get a further bonus option in the main menu to show the speed in larger numerals in either MPH or KPH, in the larger window above :-)

Do anyone have a picture of the interior of a car fitted with the interior light package. Where are the lights for the passengers fitted? I'm about to buy a B-class and find the package interesting but I don't want to have lights positioned somewhere in the roof if its not nice-looking.

I promise you it looks just fine. I had it. Lovely. Is it too late to add Parktronic - areal boon on modern cars where you can't the see the end of the bonnet (or boot on most).

Thx. DC_insider. It looks much better than I thought. Smart to put the light inside the handles. But its after all Mercedes we talk about here :bannana: I have tried lots of cars but I always find things with them I dislike. MB B-class was the first one I really liked and which also fits my major needs - not too large but roomy enough to bring my family. Also both my wife and I loves the higher driving position and the B-class is more luxorious than say Ford C-Max. I think I will go for B200 CDI instead of the B180 CDI - in fear of missing the extra power later on.

Update on this - for anybody experiencing the same .... the 'clunk' was eventually traced to a dodgy weld somewhere in the passenger footwell area ... took many visits and completely dismantling the car to fix this !!

Trim has been replaced and hasn't peeled off again ... yet !

Otherwise have been extremely pleased with the car ..... time for a change soon though ;)

Yes. Good move. That's the one I had. Plenty of grunt and so refined when cruising. Does an unbelievable 35 mph per thousand revs when cruising --well it does with the CVT auto box so only doing 2,000 revs at 70mph. Quiet and relaxing. From memory it does 0-62 in 9.6 seconds or thereabouts and I always think -as a benchmark- anything under 10 seconds feels punchy.:)

I ordered a B180 CDI after all. If I want more power a viable option is to install the engine tuning set from Brabus. 0-100 kmph in 9.9 seconds is almost as fast as an original B200 CDI (9.7 seconds). Do anyone know whether there are other differences between the B180 and B200 than different tuning of the engine controller. Is the turbo different in any way? It is noticable how much slower the B180 with automatic transmission is compared to the manual, 0.5 second. The B200 with automatic transmission is only 0.1 second slower than the manual. Do anyone know how fast the B180 automatic will be with the Brabus tuning box. 9.9 seconds is propably for manual transmission.

Just don't forget to check with your insurance company before you order.

The engines are principally the same with the exception of the turbo.

So that is why the 0-100 kmph numbers are different after tuning. Not by much but still. Nice to know. I don't think I would dare to tune a B200 with the Brabus set in fear of putting too much stress on the transmission. Remember Mercedes has lowered the maxium torque from 300 Nm to 280 Nm for the automatic transmission. There have to be a reason for that.

I'm from Norway and we have a tax on horse powers. The extra powers mean I have to pay 22.000 nkr (12 nkr=1£) just in tax to upgrade from B180 to B200. Ridiculous when you consider the engines almost have idential CO2 emissions. I just don't think that is worth the extra money.

No, logically you are probably right. In modern traffic especially in the UK the journey time will be little different in either model. Sensually, though, we are all suckers to some extent for a bit of extra grunt -even at the expense of our wallets and common sense.
