Sound Cancelling Heaphones

I'll agree with you when QVC start selling MBs.

Till that point comes I'll treat Bose with a bit of respect but not as much as they think they're worth.

I have one of the Bose wave radios, without a doubt it is the best sounding & most thought out/well designed radios I have ever had. Whoever designed it must have used the same principals that Mercedes stick too when you see the thought that has gone into the many features it has. Plus, it is built to last too unlike most of todays electronics.

Yes.

But sadly that doesn't mean there's not an underlying truth.

Blanket statement! I have Bose ones and fly a mixture of Club and Econ depending where i have a meeting. The Bose ones are fantastic earphones, i use them at the gym and they stop me hearing the women in the dance studio shouting and screaming!! haha.

Also, if you look at Bose high end speaker technology in their commercial products etc you would know they do make stuff that is in most cases more than significantly better than others out there. They are similar to B & O and a few others, however their average sounding set ups in cars have given them a bad name, this is due to limits placed on what they can do by the manufacturer by cost etc more than their own lack of quality.......

They have shops with demonstration lounges in the shopping malls in the US, some of their home cinema set ups sound absolutely amazing, and all from little tiny cube speakers too. Hard to believe little speakers can sound so full.

I was going to mention their home cinema stuff but didnt want to go on! I actually didnt buy theirs in the end and instead bought seperate speaker package and AV etc. My reason was because i wanted more mid range and wasnt so bothered about the speakers being tiny but if you look at what their system is capable of from using speakers the size of a ring box you would see they are fantastic.....They are not cheap but they are not supposed to be are they......

Except it's not. It's a cheap transmission line loudspeaker made using some foam damped plastic formed into a folded transmission line. The interior resonances are horrible in the design and it gives impressive response but not accurate response at the bottom end. The top end response is all done with EQ. Yes when you compare it to a tabletop sony radio it's an impressive sound, and for Radio 4 it's good, but for proper music it's not actually any better than a Roberts (wooden cabinet please).

Ever wondered why nearly every loudspeaker designed for listening to music on looks like a boring box made of wood?

Don't go there. Having just placed another small order on Turbosound I might forward them a link to this thread...

Their marketing department deserves a huge amount of respect. The salesmen even more (notice how you don't get Bose equipment demo'd side by side with say Monitor Audio, or Linn). And Amar Bose has managed to turn psychoacoustics into a marketable and very very profitable (dismantle a wave radio to see just how much it will cost to make) range of products which are stylish, marketed displayed and sold in an aspirational fashion, and cost a lot, so must be good.

B&O can actually sound good (the imitation dalek Beolab 5s are very very good sounding speakers with sound engineering behind the good looks) and has very good features and user interfaces (I've just configured a system for someone witha Beosound 5 / Beomaster 5 / Beolab 5) but you can get the sound for 1/5 the price by buying something else. Stand a Bose system next to it though and it's a world apart in quality.

Sounds just like Mercedes, so they can't be all bad!

Are they significantly better to look at? I thought it was about sound. :p

I wasn't overly impressed by the QC2 and QC3 over the Sennheiser equivalents. I'd happily live with QC2 but don't perceive tangible benefit in paying extra for them.

Wave radio is an interesting product but doesn't sound entirely natural to my jaded ear.

If you are after the BOSE earphones these are at half price right now..... please don't shoot the messenger I know nothing much about headsets but they seem to be a bargain......

Bose in ear Headphones

They also have lots of other makes at 50% off right now... I am also after a pair for my iphone, and have read good reports on these at £25

http://www.headphones-direct.co.uk/products/sennheiser-cx500.php

From the same place. Maybe some of the more expert amongst us could recommend a pair for around the same price that would be the best ones to go for. I need 'in ear' plugs to use under my crash helmet on the bike.

Those bose to look attractive at that price... not much to waste if they aren't good...

EDIT: Sad - having a look online that site seems to have a reputation for selling fakes.. doh!

I have both Sennheiser CX300s (I bought myself some years ago) and ***** SE210s (that my wife bought me this year)..

the Sennheiser give better base and a more comfortable fit, wires get tangled easily - better for when you're on the move

the SE210s give more accurate sound reproduction - better for listening without much movement

Both are very good at isolating the sound and reducing background noise, personally I wouldn't want to cancel ALL other noises.

You do on a plane though, that is where a good set of noise cancelling headphones come into their own.

I guess that some of the biggest clubs in the world use Bose speakers for absolutely no reason then, including montiors for the DJs....Either that, or when i turn to my right and see the Bose logo on the monitor speaker it must be just the box with some other speaker inside!!?? The small room at the Ministry of Sound has the loudest club soundsystem in the UK and they Bose, or at least they have gone to the trouble of Bose logos on there boxes with some other speaker inside......:D

This is a very subjective thread anyway, each to their own.....All speaker manufacturers have high end contracts, they cant all be the best!! Infinity supply the speakers for concerts at Wembley Stadium for example and i dont rate their consumer stuff at all, does that make them crap?? Probably not but it does mean i wont buy them....I have friends that wont buy mercs cause they think they are a pile of crap yet they drive Japanese cars!!! Now thats strange...!! People become anti certain brands for certain reasons, usually because someone supposedly 'in the know' tells them why they are rubbish but that can stem from many reasons.....Just my opinion......Make up your own minds.....

Try a US website that ships abroad, should be quite a bit cheaper......
