Hi all,

As my CLK doesn't have a CD changer and is the Comand unit with the shared DVD drive for the maps, I'm looking for options to listen to more than the radio.

I thought I'd start low-tech and hook up the phone to the Aux socket in the glove-box; does anyone have experience of using this? Would I need/recommend a ground loop isolator?

Thanks!

Try it first, if you get humming, then you might...

I'd get a bluetooth audio receiver for it though as above. Far better convenience.

I use the aux socket in glove box. You have to crank up the volume as for some reason when you plug the phone in the volume is low. The sound quality is fine but I think it's alot to do with the sound quality of the mp3 file that you have on the phone. I use use an app called Audiomack

The volume problem is an issue for some. My bluetooth audio receiver is also a headphone amplifier, so I can boost the output far higher, bringing the volume in line with that of a CD or the radio.

Any streaming service like Apple music or Spotify should be at least 224Kb/s. It's not a bitrate quality issue, the aux socket has an impedance issue, so you have to drive it pretty hard with something like a headphone amp.

nice topic, as ive just found the aux socket after 3 years of ownership , i bought a handsfree bluetooth adapter off ebay just to try for £3.99 and honestly its great !!!!! it paired with my phone in an instant and sound quality is brill .with it plugged in i can still close the glovebox too.

My one has a mike lol.

No idea.guess id SHOUT up.

Thanks for the input guys; to be honest, I hadn't realised the bluetooth options were quite so cheap!

I guess you power these from a 12v to usb adapter in the ashtray? Or have you a more elaborate power option; does the glovebox light provide enough oomph to tap into?

Oh, I've also been looking at phone bluetooth thingies that hook into the uhi port; anyone run one of these along with the bluetooth attached to the aux in dongle at the same time?

Mine is rechargeable, it lasts a long time so I charge it up via the phone charger for a couple of hours every few months.
If you have the wherewithal you could run a supply to it permanently.

Thanks Dr, that sounds pretty good battery life - wouldn't be too much of a ball ache to charge it every now and then. What make is yours?
