Spark Plug on W220 S 500 - How long do they last?

Hi,

I have just had my 2000 S500 serviced at a dealer - very reasonable 400 quid for B-service. However they suggested a spark plug change is due sometime, but the cost is around 200 pounds as there are 16 plugs and it is around 2 hrs labour. Does anyone have an idea of how long the originals last - the car has around 48k on the clock and runs absolutely perfectly at the moment.

thanks

When I bought my C200 it was 3 years old 50k with full deall history and never had the spark plugs changed according to the service book, think they got changed on my next B service at 60k but it was still runnin fine  The car was supplied and serviced by Ciceley Continental of Preston. The 60k B service was done by Road Range Liverpool and told me they change the spark plugs every B Service, may be different on yours with having 16  But i should imagine modern spark plugs are OK for 50-60k if not more.
What dealer charged £400 for a B service on a S500? - pretty good that ;)

My M113 is just a longer stroke version of your 500 V8 and plugs are part of the four yearly service, or every 60K miles. They cost me 16 x 5.38 +VAT for parts plus 2 hours labour. The rear ones can be tricky to change so 2 hours isn't wrong tho handy spannermen do claim they can change them in half the time.

The service book quotes 55 - 65k miles for an S class or every 4 years. I would think the engine bay is quite large so access won't be as tight as the W210 - 2hr dealer time is a bit cheeky.

what makes you think 400 quid is cheap, all they do is change the oil!!! oh, and look at the brake pads, it probably takes the 1/2hr if the truth be known.
