Spark Plugs

Hi

I think I am going to get my spark plugs changed next week. I have spoken to Royale Engineering and they are very reasonable.

What spark plugs should I Use? Should I go with OEM ones or are there any benefits from aftermarket ones??

I usually use bosch, if theres not much price difference, use oe, but to be fair, bosch are just as good if not better.

was quoted £50 by royale today inc parts but my local bosch dealer wants £5 + vat per plug (for Platinum) and I believe i have 16 plugs, so that quote seams too cheap

erm do royale realise how many plugs there are!! I thought your car was a V6?? How many plugs per cylinder does that make?

I replaced the plugs on mine myself last week and went for the OEM from the dealer.Priced at £1.60 each I was more than happy.I got talking with the sales guy and he says they are matched spefically to the car thats why they had my chassis number.

if you have a v8 engine you will have 16 plugs,and if its a v6 you will have 12 plugs.
all v engines on mercs have 2 plugs per cylinder,they are a fiddle to change,hence the slightly high labour rate to change them.
I can change 12 plugs in v6 in about 1 hour,but I think the dealership will charge you at least 2 if not 4 hours

Mine is a V8, and i guess they dont realise. This makes me think that I should get someone else to change them.

Plugs are too important to stint on them. Use only the best that you can find, or suffer the inifficiencies of cheap ones.

after I had my plugs changed, the car was smoother and more powerful ... well worth it
