Speaker Recommendtions for W124

The speakers in my 300d are shot, a lot of cone vibration sound that makes listening to R4 and R5L very annoying.... I might renew that radio too whilst I'm at it...

I've looked on ebay and the choice is mind boggling - any recommendations on make model? I'm past the age that I want sub woofers and all that, I just want 4 good speakers that perform well for speech that will replace the exisiting speakers in a W124..

Whichever one you do end up getting, I would suggest one with DAB.
Go to a local hi-fi car installer (look in your local yellow pages/Thompson and get personal recommendations first.

I bought these from Ray Smith, and very pleased with them. They were offering 10% discount to forum members a while back so worth asking.

I have mine in the front and they give a good sound.

If you just want replacement speakers then that's easy, there are a fair few about.

If you want a new head unit though and your car is pre facelift, it is an utter pain in the **** as the head unit is more of a face plate and all the gubbins are in the boot.

The dash speakers are about £30 / pair from the dealer and they're surprisingly good. The Rainbows are better but IMHO They're not worth three times as much

The real limitation of the dash speakers is their size. You just won't get any real bass or power handling from an 11 cm speaker that will fit in that tiny hole
