Speeding

I got caught because I was a Pratt I've travelled the same stretch of road every working day for the last 28 years. Didn't pay enough attention and paid the price, sorry guys there's never an excuse for speeding. I know it may be fun but I know id be sick if I caused a fatality by my recklessness. Now my eldest is driving it wasn't the best example to show him, as I said I'm a Pratt

How fast over the limit and how much was the fine?

The temp limit was 40, normally national speed limit which was what I was doing, €360 fine plus court costs

Is that £60 fine or £360?

20mph over the limit, got 6 points...

€360 it was a dual carriage way so I was 30 over the limit I was lucky it could have been a ban, the cut off point is 66 mph anything over usually results in a ban

Oops...

How did they catch you?

A bit harsh - you made a genuine mistake in this instance.

Excessive speed doesn't automatically make you a bad driver but they decide where they draw the line and enforce beyond that.

My grandfather got caught speeding many moons ago - doing 60mph in a 40mph which was a 3 lane dual carriageway and he is ex-job.

He doesn't routinely speed so was a mistake and he got GATSO'd.

thanks, luckily the magistrate had a similar opinion

Isn't part of the 'offence' the lack of observation (didn't see the signs) and/or concentration (speed crept up)? So the speed may not have been 'unsafe' but that's not the full picture

Sorry Beno, not wishing to twist the knife, just exploring the offence in general.

No your spot on, there is no excuse.

Well, you appear to have taken it like a man Beno. Others would have make all manner of lame excuses as to how unfair it all was; how 'they' are out to get them; everyone's fault but theirs. Credit to you for your candid honesty.

Older and wiser, eh?

Cheers gents, yes older, wiser and definitely poorer. I think the hardest thing was the ear bashing I got from SWMBO which has been far worse than anything the court could have done.

I love speeding, I think its amazing fun and not dangerous where considtions allow, but its a costly thing if you get caught, and if you speed a lot, you will get caught (I should know, 2FPN's,3points and one speed awereness course all earned in six fast and furious months).....

1 x Speed awareness course
2 x FPT's = 6 points
Possible extra 3 points as per your post.

All the above within 6 'fast and furious months'.

You love speeding and think it's amazing fun and not dangerous where conditions allow.

"where conditions allow".....mmm mmm

The insurance change will massively depend on the code. If the points are SP30s they don't mind too much. Even with 11 points the premium will only be a little bit higher. I got stung more when some stupid bimbo crashed into my car. My insurance went up by £100 on my next renewal for that one!

The only time points affected me was trying to get a hire car, you end up either getting refused or paying a higher hire cost!

Why are you charged for other people crashing into you? You should be able to claim the extra expense of the renewal costs to the other persons insurance company.

..because it's a no claims bonus, not a no fault bonus. Some people are unlucky...insurance companies don't like that.

I didn't lose my no claims bonus. They just suddenly think you are a higher risk because you park you car in a car park (heaven forbid) and then someone crashes into it. Not my merc thank goodness, it was my skyline.

That's not necessarily so. A while ago I managed to rack up 9 pionts (all from minor safety camera incidents, and all cleared now), and my renewal quote more than doubled, from around £600 to over £1300.

Also, bear in mind that insurance companies tend to require you to declare points for five years, even though they expire after three.
