alright peeps,

Is it possible ??? as at the moment (i believe?) my only sensor is on the rear view mirror and I have to be standing either directly in front of the car or directly behind to activate (and bend down a bit!) ive changed the batteries but it still really annoying. Id like to add a couple of extra w210 door handle ones on to give some extra range from the sides but just wondering about the wiring up. I dont mind if i have to take both the door trims off and chase cable all the way up to the rear view mirror. Can these wires just be spliced in or does something else need to be done ???

cheers

Brett

alright mate :)

although it would be helpful if it could be spliced in a bit nearer

Hi,
I understand what you are trying to do but the systems fitted to the 210 are the same as a 202, the door handles on the early 202 and 210 are not IR recievers but just alarm/immobilser status indicators.

ah bugger, throws a spanner in the works !

So is the one and only I.R Sensor actually built in the RVM ?

But the handles on the later 210s are ir receivers.

Yes but the later 202's are as well, the system changed from a Scorpion based alarm system intergrated into the car to a fully intergrated MB electronic system which utilised RF well as IR.
Have you tried replacing the Rear View Mirror? though as you say the range of these early systems is abysmal mine has better range than what your describing yours has, they are quite a common issue with the early vehicles though its normally due to red or green a LED failure but I think thats what I would try first.

I havent tried replacing the rear view mirror but funnily enough the range front and rear is really quite good if you catch it right up to say 30 odd feet (ive experimented!) but from the side you literally have nothing. So has anyone actually deconstructed a RVM - is the sensor soldered directly onto a pcb or anything or is it seperate on dangley wires or something as i may just buy another one and rip the sensors out and mount elswheres ??
