sprintersteering problem

hi driving to work this morning the steering pump became noisy.fluid level ok,but got progresively worse.got to work looked under the bonnet and fluid is coming out of the top of the resovoir power steering still works but very heavy and notchy on bigger locks anyone come across this before,suspect rack problem but would like advice before swopping it
