Hi all,

my 2000 CLK W208 has just developed a horrible squeaking noise on the front Passengers side when I apply the brakes. This only happens when the brakes are applied and the speed is less than 20mph.

I had recently changed the pads (front and rears with original MB pads) along with new front sensors too. its been 200 miles since the change and now I get this noise.

Any idea what/why this is happening? and how do I get rid of this noise? I've taken the wheels off and checked that they are sitting properly and it seems fine.

cheers

Pritesh

How worn are your discs. Very worn discs will cause it as will lack of grease on the contact points of the pads.

I did check the discs when I replaced them, they looked ok i guess...the car has only done 62K.

I should mention that the car is used primarily as a weekend runner and has been sitting doing nothing for 7 days flat. would this be an issue?

I doubt it. There is a minimum permissible thickness for discs. It is printed on the hub of the disc. It might be difficult to see so give it a scrub with a wire brush. Are they lipped?

They are lipped, but nothing too deep to be honest. only occurs on the passenger side too.

Are there any anti-squeal shims behind the brake pads? Did you refit them? I always use Copaslip grease on the back of the pads; it 'sticks' the pad to the piston and alters its natural frequency, thus eliminating the squeal.

If you didn't use the proper grease on all contact points of the pads, then they will squeal. My dealer usually gives me a couple of sachets of the special grease when I buy the pads.
