I own a 2002 C180 Coupe which has a SRS fault showing on the screan, I have taken it to my local MB garage who plugged into the laptop and told me it was the SRS control unit. Can anyone tell me where this is located and how to get to it. I have seen the units on e bay for about £60 and they just seem to be an unplug and plug in a new one

On my clk it was behind the ash tray .Hope this helps .

How did you conclude this? Usually the control units have the VIN code coded, I don't know if it works with an incorrect VIN in another car but at least the SRS options have to be exactly the same, otherwise you will get the malfunction indication.

It was my local indy MB garage who plugged it in and told me the code indicated it was the main SRS Control unit, dont know how you could change the code if it need to be vin coded

Think you misunderstood the post. Yes you need to plug in STAR to get the fault code or check what component is faulty.

But once you have the new control unit it may work but more likely it will need STAR coding so it works properly with your car.

OK thanks, just need confirmation it is behind the ash tray on a c class coupe and how to get to it without breaking any trims

there is more to it than just unplugging the unit.

you need to treat the SRS circuit with caution, as it involves explosive devices, which could trigger the airbags accidently - which would be very expensive; apart from being potentially harmful and causing injury.

there will be a special disconnect device to isolate the explosive part from the circuit.

even then you should wait until the capacitive discharge has taken place.

try and get more knowledge before messing with it.

Sounds a bit more involved than I first thought, may just locate the unit get one off e bay and let my local indy MB garage to fit it, unless someone can give me details on how to tackle it
