Hi.
I have been reading some of the post on what you can enable using STAR, and I get more and more lost the more I read.

1. Don't you need some kind of motor in the mirrors to make them foldable?

2. Wouldn't you need some kind of pressure sensors inside the tires to be able to read pressure or alert for loss of pressure...?

3. If cornering lights can be enabled on all cars, why isn't it on by default since it is considered a safety feature?

I am sure I can think of more questions...

I have a MY2005, and would really appreciate it if someone would do a writeup on what I can enable on my car.
It is a Avantgarde with Xenons.

2. It uses the ABS sensors.

The other method of monitoring tire pressure does not require any additional hardware inside or outside the wheel. It is the "indirect" method. This approach makes use of the existing wheel speed sensors in the antilock brake (ABS) system. By modifying the ABS operating software, the ABS system learns the average speed at which each wheel rotates when traveling straight at a constant velocity, and detects low tires by comparing relative wheel speeds. The auto makers like this approach because it is a simple, cost-effective way to monitor tire pressure. But it has some limitations

3. Cant be enabled on ALL cars AFAIK.

Does it fold by pressing the button once if so then you should be able to enable it (Rather than holding the button till the mirror completly folds). Also depending of what SAM is fitted to the car

As above it used the wheel speed sensors / ABS

Because Mercedes likes to make money...... I had it enabled and didn't like it so got it switched off again - Waste of time imho

Please excuse my ignorance, but what button would you be referring to to make the mirrors fold?

Not sure where on the E class but certainly on a C class there is a button to fold the mirrors just above the switches to adjust the position of the mirror -

Button just in front of the mirror adjust on the door. Not all W211 have folding door mirrors.

I personally would avoid auto fold. Wire's in the loom can crack where they bend and it's either an expensive replacement or a bit of a fath sorting it out.

Ok. So you are going from manually folding the mirrors to automatic... I see. Don't have the fold option then. :wallbash:

Does anyone know if it is possibe to get the mirrors to fold automatically when locking the car? I've seen this feature on W204 Elegance, but on my W203 Classic the mirrors only fold if I press the button next to the lights switch.

Do you have to press and hold to fold or press and let go?

It is possible, if the later, this can be coded using STAR

That's a surprise, although equipment does vary by country.

I never knew I had them on a company Peugeot years ago until I returned to the car one day and someone had banged into the passenger side mirror. As I started the engine I noticed it unfolding itself.

Just to chip in - I had my folding mirrors on one of my cars (Mitsubishi) which I had linked to the alarm system so that it would auto-fold. The only difference is I put a physical up/down switch in series so I could switch this feature on or off. Unfortunately some wires broke in the loom (as suggested) and I had to re-wire it.

So these headlights moving on all cars - even my 1999 W210 E55 AMG??

No not on a w210 i'm afraid.

I have coded literally hundreds of cars to have auto folding mirrors. Not one person has reported any wiring issues. In fact I would go as far as to say there isnt an issue. Simply because Mercedes design these things to fold in the first place. The wiring inside that moves is minimal The auto folding does no more than any driver does if he/she folds the mirrors every time they get in and out of the car!

Headlights that move are Active cornering lights the others are passive in that the headlights do not move but the inside fog lights up. These fogs have a wider beam pattern than normal and illuminate into the corner.

Even with the STAR enabling it to the front SAM (shows on the cluster), your front SAM Part Number needs to be A2035453601 or higher in the last 4 digits. I heard it can be done aplying some zener diodes onside the front SAM

There are a few of us on this thread. I am not imagining it!

When I spoke to my dealer, they did not fall over in shock and already knew from previous experience that you cannot by the wiring loom separately.
