Have a starting problem with my C240 Sports. On the odd occasion when i turn the key to start the car nothing happens apart from an initial clunk and slight turnover of the engine.

Then I turn it off and then back on again and it starts normally, I thought battery on its way.

Checked acid level all seems ok there. Took to have battery tested at 'Quickfit' type place, they put it under load with a machine that looked like a battery charger and said it seems ok. I thought the meter said about ten volts on the dial and was surprised when they said all ok.

It then took three or four attemps of the key to turn the car over which it never has done before, which re-enforces my view its the battery.

Am I right or have I missed something?, batteries at least four years old and my normal daily run to and from work is 7-8 miles.

7 to 8 miles is not really enough to get the start usage back on a daily basis mate. The battery is gradually reducing in efficiency and needs a good recharge to bring back to full life.

Latest update:

Took it to the Independant Stuttgart Garage in Ponty today who normally services the car. He thinks its either the starter motor or starter solenoid and not the battery. He will not be 100% sure until he's read the fault codes. Its going in on the 7th. Either way its going to be expensive!!!!!!!!
