With the air-con on "recirculate", the same air is repeatedly passed over the air con heat exchanger which is much colder than the air.
Condensation forms of the heat exchanger and drips into the drain below it.
The air is progressively dried.
It is particularly useful in summer in hot and humid conditions, when a good A/C system set to recirculate and a cold setting, will quickly dehumidify the cabin as well as cool it.
