Hi guys
New on here and hoping to solve.
Mercedes W204 displaying esp and abs lights on dash.
MB have said: esp light on dash req scm replaced and coding.
What does that mean

Did you take the car to MB then for diagnosis?
Did they not explain what needs doing?

I would imagine that means the steering control module needs replacing.
The coding means that particular new parts need coded to the car using STAR

Hi,
The car had a recall for earthing inadvertent driver airbag deployment and they picked up on the esp and abs warning lights on. Which have been on since last week.
Could it be steering angle sensor or scm

Chances are there's a problem with the steering angle sensor which indicates what angle the front wheels are at, and the rate of turn of the wheel- data required by the ESP system hence the ESP light. Coding will be required for any new unit -finiky job for the pros with the right gear MB dealer or specialist.

Hi Grober
Thank you. I thought as much but thought I'd get it out there and see if anyone knew.
Mechanic picked up on angle sensor too. Once again thanks to all who replied

My W211 had the ESP, ABS, PAS, etc.. fault. Turns out,bit was the steering angle sensor and module.

Steering column module on a w204 is plug and play if it is a new part. I’ve fitted a fair few and never had an issue. A friend fitted a used one and had a lot of drama relating to the steering angle sensor in it, ended up buying a new one.

Thanks guys really appreciate it
