Hi

I have just bought a W211 E320 cdi. The SRS light has come on - hoped it would go off after the battery had charged on the way back, but not to be.

I'm pretty sure that it is related to the Steering Wheel - where none of the buttons/horn work. If my prediction is right the airbag will also not be functioning, hence the light.

Anyone seen this - where to start?

David

Shot in the dark here David but have you checked fuses. Perhaps the steering wheel and airbag are all on the same fuse and it could have blown..?

Not being an expert here I'm probably totally wrong but worth a try.?

I'll have a look now. Taken until not to get 2 mins to do anything...

Next post probably where is the fuse box.....:D

theres 2 in the front (maybe more!), one in the engine bay, one on the side of the dash. theres also one in the rear passenger side in the boot.

ill let someone more knowledgable tell you where the sterering fuse is, i havent got a clue! :)

the only other thing is the SRS ring that sits between the steering and the column, this passes all the signals to the steering wheel, horn, buttons, airbag, if this has a fault then you would get the symptoms you are experiencing.

might be a star job to be sure!

What do you know. the Fuse Diagram is missing... Checked all the fuses in the main box and boot and they seem ok - anyone have a diagram showing the location?

First thing to order....

Spoken to my indie who think's it is a fuse. Also checked a fuse box under the bonnet, but alas nothing seems to be amiss. I'm taking it in Monday am, unless either I have a brainspark - or somone suggests something else to check?

I take it this was a private sale 'sold as seen'?

If the SRS light is on, then you're right, non of your airbags will deploy in the event of an accident.

Does your indy have a STAR machine because once the fault has been identified and repaird, the SRS system will need to be reset.

Did the previous owner mention anything about having had the steering wheel off for anything?

David. Liberated the fuse diagram from mine. Nothing I can see refers to the SRS light or the steering wheel controls.

PM me your email and I'll scan it for you.

Alternatively. The list appears to be part No A2115450000

It was a trade sale, but he and I both thought it would go off with some charge in the battery. Have an agreement on cost if significant, so should be ok.

indy has STAR, and knows MB's very well. No idea on steering wheel off.

Thanks Druk - will do.

Sent as four separate emails cos of shape and two sides. Bit slow cos of steam driven scanner but if you don't receive all four let me know.

David - just a thought on your steering wheel buttons.

They should illuminate at night (with the lights on of course), so if they are not lit, you know you have a problem with the wheel itself.

If they are lit, you probably need star to get them talking with the rest of the car.

Good luck.

Its most likley gonna be the steering wheel connector loom , its a plastic ribon type loom that alows the wheel to turn .

I would also say it has to be the contact spiral reel behind the steering wheel if all of these things are not working

Regarding your horn and function buttons

Hi David, I know it's been a long time since you had this issue with your Mercedes W211, with the horn and function buttons not working, can you please tell me what the issue was as I have the same exact problem.

Thank you

Contact spiral or steering wheel module are the normal causes.
