Strange Car Problem.....

Have a bit of a strange problem.

When recently starting the car after a longish journey, the car wouldnt go above what seemed like third gear. I stopped, turned off and started the car again and it was ok.

However what happened next is that the speedo needle and speed digital readout below is very sluggish - ie it moves up to the driving speed slowly and when I break the needle and read-out falls off slowly too - I'd guess the needle is moving about half the speed it normally moves.

Tried stopping and starting - no effect. There are no other malfunction lights such as ABS showing....?

Thanks for your help,

The problem with your thread is that you have not told us what car you are talking about.

Does this only happen when you're driving a strange car? Perhaps you should stick to familiar ones.

Also, not a good idea to break the speedo needle - they tend not to work properly after that.

The problem with the thread is that people are going to assume it's another wind-up, given Voyager's recent form.

...a clockwork car...now that's interesting.

Yes, it sounds like it could be a stretched short-ended cockspring, normally found facing the speedo from the driver's seat.

Generally driven by clowns...

Problem Sorted ! - it was a speed sensor slightly disconnected - car is working perfectly again.

(Mike - you might want to take a note of the technical solution - useful to have more than one string to your bow ! haha

I normally find electronics too much of fiddle, but that seemed easy enough, and duly noted!

Thanks for the laughs Mocas :) - it's usually me extracting the urine out of other people's use of the English language.
