Hello Folks.

Having been down to London for Christmas, from Edinburgh, the '87 W124 did me proud, drove perfectly for the best part of 1000 miles, but on the last 50 miles, from Hawick up the A7 to Edinburgh the temp gauge didn't rise above 60 degrees, normally sits just above 80.

Why would this be, if it was getting too hot I'd have been worried, but couldn't think of a good reason for it remaining low, despite a long journey. Surely the cold weather wouldn't have done it. All levels are OK.

Interested in your thoughts please ..........

Thankyou!

Perhaps - would something like this go suddenly, mid journey (Suppose it could)

Any other suggestions?

Did you cooling fan stay on for some reason?

Nope - cooling fan is behaving the same way it's always behaved. Just been out in the car, did 60 miles, and temp didn't rise above 60.

Odd.

Does this car use a viscous coupling for the fan. As with mattc's car I suspect either the thermostat or fan coupling.

This sounds like the stat has gone u/s but I wonder if these cars really need the viscous coupling as it won't be helping with warm up at all.
