I have noticed that when i switch on the air con that for the first 10-30 seconds i get a very plastic type of smell almost a plastic melting smell, but it seems to go away after 30 seconds or so...any ideas?

Go to Halfords or motor spares shop and get some air con freshener , most say it works well

garage

I've emailed stutgart garage in pontyprydd to have a nose as it needs a little look at for one or two small niggles:eek:

Got to say this is a great forum, very helpfull indeed:)

I was in Kwik Fit yesterday (getting the Audi's Air con checked and re-gassed for a bargain £45 - thanks to this forum). Anyway... They do an aircon "debug" to remove smells for £19.95 I think - might be worth a shot ?

Sounds electrical to me possibly the fan motor ot control module.

Dieselman could be right on this one.
Aircon systems tend to encourage the growth of certain types of bacteria and these produce a fairly unpleasant smell, but it is usually most noticable for 5 or 10 minutes after the aircon has been switched off. I doubt that this is the cause in this case because the smell only occurs for a few seconds after the a/c is turned on.
The cure for the bacteria problem is straightforward - a 'smoke bomb' from Halfords is left inside the car for 15 mins with the a/c on and the heating control set to 'recirculate' (engine running of course). This kills the bacteria.

I read dieselmans post some time back and have been thinking on that. Electric motors are not hot from start up, they get warm after some running time, and that's the same with ECU's etc, plus a motor smell would linger for ages, and that's an unmistakable sell.

We shall see

air con

I emailed stuttgart garage and i will get it in there this week and they can have a look for me as like i have said before i have a few small niggles i want ironed out like pulling to the left on the car and the air con etc.

Having not had it long then i want it looked over to see what sort of condition its in etc.

The air cons a weird one though.
