Help!

I have a year 2000 CL500 (W215) with Comand 2.5 and the Bose audio.

Yesterday there was sudden loss of sound from the radio and satnav, and the CD changer suddenly does not work (loss of power).

The screen seems to be working fine, displaying the radio station, as does the navigation, just no sound. Its like the amp has broken down.

I have tried replacing the appropriate fuses. What next?

Thanks in advance....

Paul.

Make sure that all plugs to the Bose amp are in

when you have checked we can take it from there

Theres a fibre optic bus that goes between head unit, CDC, phone system, BOSE amp and back to head unit. Theres also a single wire called 'wakeup' which tells all the units on it to wake up their fibre optics (if on all time, battery would go flat)

Its a ring, so if any unit fails on it the whole lot stops (or if a fuse to one of the units fails, etc). Or sometimes if wakeup connection fails, same can happen

So, it sounds like something on the bus has failed. (so the sounds can not be sent from the head unit to the amp) Its quite likely to be the CDC since you describe it as 'loss of power', and from memory the CDC in that generation car will still eject disk without fibre optics. Check the fuse first.

You can buy something called a D2B joiner , take the fibres out of the CDC and bypass it with the joiner if you dont want to replace it. Theres some details about this fibre optic bus here: -

But my document is desperately lacking photos.

Cant this guy go into the service menu to see if all the boxes are ticked, this will also show up a optical fault in the chain

Good point Malcom, that will at least tell him whether the ring is broken, i cant actually recall if its possible to work out where the break is, maybee from the error list. As its Comand 2.5 I think he needs to select 'Tape' first

Go look at

http://www.mercupgrades.com/Mercedes+COMAND+Diagnostic++Service++Mode-article-13.html

Look at the D2B components , I think you will see the 'actual' list only with the 1 head unit entry, but the configured list with a lot more - note down the order of the components

Then look at the error list, and use the following doc to translate them

http://mercupgrades.com/COMAND Error Codes-article-3.html

You will probably be getting N1111 errors which will tell you which component on the list is reporting a fault (and the fault will be coming from the previous unit on the ring I think)

Thanks folks,

I went through the diagnostic menus and the boxes were all ticked.

So searched for the error list and here's what I found:

error N1112, 252 times, active
error B1762, 001 time, previous
error B1769, 691 times, active

Any advice?

Cheers.

N1112 means No data transfer between D2B master and D2B predecessor component possible.

So, its not seeing the component configured before the master (i.e before the head unit)

(theres seperate error codes for when the previous item reports a fault from before it)

You can tell what the previous component is from the D2B 'actual' vs 'configured' settings, look at the "D2B components list" and tell us what is there

[edit, the other error code is because comand can't talk to the phone controller]

Hi Richard,

Here's what my 'D2B Components' screen states:

Pos Actual Config
0 1C8 1C8
1 000 108
2 000 190
3 000 000
4 000 000
5 000 000

Cheers,

Paul.

1C8 is the COMAND unit, 108 is the amp, 190 is the CD changer

Headunit is complaining it cant see the previous item, which is CDC, so I recon the CDC is bust or the CDC fuse is gone. If you've checked the fuse, PM alfie see if he can replace it at a sensible price

Cheers

Richard
