I need to fit a 12v socket in the glovebox to power my dashcam, anyone done this little mod? I do have the CD changer fitted and wonder if there may be a switched live already present :dk:

Someone on here posted this morning about a small re-wore to a USB cable to keep it permanently live for dashcam, really simple method saving other work

There are no USB ports in the CLK

Ah I see, I get what your post is about now. Had there of been the USB/aux connection within the glovebox already then I guess you'd of gone down that route instead

There are some threads on here though with instructions of doing it from the cigarette lighter if that will help

CDC will be powered via SAM I think, to allow it to continue to operate when the ignition is off, and also I presume it comes alive when you open glovebox, even if the engine is off, so you can eject / insert CDs?

If your dashcam takes 12V, it is very easy to hard-wire it (not much more complicated, if it's 5V either) - you can pick a switched positive from the power socket fuse (better) or directly from the power socket wiring - all you need is a fuse tap (or inline fuse holder, if splicing the power socket wire), some quality wire and some Tesa tape ... Just make sure the power socket is not permanently live (some rear ones are - mine is, for example).
