I'm not sure if this will help anyone or not, but I thought I'd share it since I couldn't find anything similar when looking for a solution to my tailgate lock problem.
The tailgate lock on my A140 would lock fine with the remote, but fail to open with the same. I've never come across a pneumatic system before so wasn't really sure about what to check, but I set about getting access to the talgate lock.
With the various bits and bobs removed to gain access to the lock, I played around with the remote and noted that when pressing the 'lock' button on the remote, the tailgate lock moved into the lock position very smoothly, however, when pressing the 'unlock' button, although there was some attemp for the lock to 'unlock', there was also a lot of hissing which signified that there was an airleak somewhere.
I traced the airleak to a small white device (to where the yellow pipe from the pump connects nearest the lock) and dismantled this. I first removed the pipe from this devices and operated the locks - the pressure was even both during locking and unlocking, leading me to believe the problem was 'post'the yellow pipe.
Anyways, I removed the white plastic device, and gently opened it up. There is a plunger-like seal in there which had a small tear. I patched this up, reinstalled everything (test run first), and everything now works as it should. Not sure how long the repair will last (used superglue and a patch on insulation tape - I know, not ideal) but I'm wondering if the seal or this unit will be available to buy as a spare part if it fails again?
Now to try and repair the rear door lock (can hear the mechanism move inside the door both during locking and unlocking but the door neither locks or unlocks)
