I have just parked next to a C Class that has used chrome trim on a roll to do all his wheel arches, all his lights, across his boot lid and over his rear spoiler. Set off with totally inappropriate wheels from a Nova or something!

tee hee they'll be fitting aluminium pedals next :D

modding is personal, if the person who's done it thinks it looks great then it's a success.

There are those who would suggest that anything other than a standard car is in bad taste.

they shouldn't be allowed out alone - they need help :D

And I should rethink on a set of these for Edna then

and on a similar vein - can anyone enlighten me - why would you fit this

hum.. to look like an Impreza? For some reason Mercedes tend to look worse than any other prestige car when modified (though a barry boy can ruin anything - just look at that lottery winning dustman **** Michael Carroll) - even cars like Koenig and Carlssons, 80s AMG SECs etc are hideous.

WHY would you do this to an R129??

Quite like the grill. Loosing the badges is like cutting the tags out your designer clothes. Only the really elite will do it.

A bit hypocritical removing badges and then adding more isn't it? What's elite about that? Prefer to call it personalisation and be done with it

I don't understand where I said anything about adding badges in my post.
I just quite like the clean look of the grille in Pammy's example. Just going to prove, one persons idea of a tastless mod, someone else quite likes.

Indeed! ;)

But I think that particular one just spoils the whole look of the front end - but that is my opinion only. I dare say there are thos ethat don't like the silver grill I have on Edna - but I do :D

You say losing badges is being elitist then put a Nurburgring / Website sticker on your car? A bit contradictory thats all!

Like you said all a matter of taste - personally I think the whole chrome dials / strips / gearknobs thing is a bit Halfords. Waffling slightly; if your car doesn't look right to you in the first place, then it's not the right car - adding bits to make it look newer won't fool anyone.

LOL - thats actually not too bad - though the dish wheels and exhaust may be a bit much! Now if only they were as tasteful as Brabus

Yeah, those wheels are ridiculous! Carlsson 1/6 wheels are about as 'far out' as I would go I think.

Ahh! Now I understand. So where did I say I was trying to be elitest! LOL. I was offering a point of view from one perspective, not the choice I have made with my current car. I could argue several perspectives, I am open minded, was just saying that grill wasn't bad and someone will love it and take that whole MB star debaged approach on their car. My car is badged as per factory - apart from the 'Ring sticker.

So no contradiction really, or I don't think so without having to look the word up. My use of the word elite was spur of the moment, dont get too hung up on it.

I like my Nurburgring decal. It makes you part of a fairly exclusive club in the UK (OK not everyone has been displays a sticker). I see only very few cars with them, most of which I should imagine have been there for real, with the current driver of the car being the pilot. I see a MKIV Golf many days of the week on the way to work with one and I would love to flag the guy down and exchange stories, it's just a passion thing. The ultimate trip for a petrol head. Nothing to do with the car you are in.

What I have got from this thread is the link to

www.barryboys.co.uk

a hilarious site. I see at least wo of our members already signed up!

I'd love to drive the Nurburgring for real - did you know you can buy the stickers on eBay however?

I remember looking either shortly before I went or came back and there did not seem to be any. However, I have seen them more recently. The shop section of the official Nurburgring site doesn't work I don't think, leaving a petrol station ear the track about the only place to buy them. Not surprised they are coming up on eBay now. Jeremy Clarkson is raising the awareness by visiting the shrine in both the last and current series of Top Gear.
