John (glojo) have you changed your mind, maybe your E was made out there you can tell by the tusk marks underneath the car because elephants are cheaper than fork lift trucks, well they are in India..

Making / building is probably too strong a word for it.

Tata assemble "kits" for MB and other manufacturers - this way the OEMs get round punitive taxation for imports.

AFAIK Tata manufacture no components for MB - and certainly no vehicles assembled by Tata for MB are exported officially out of India.

Tata used to make a utility vehicle using W124 chassis IIRC, wonder where that came from

My father-in-law had such a utility verhicle - looked like a 190 from the front. It was awful. Bought it new scrapped a couple of years later, and it had pretty much only ever been driven around the garden and to the tip!!
