Tax and SORN

Hi, I moved house in 2010 and around the same time I thought I'd declared my car off road and sorn. However, I checked the details using a phone app the other day and the records say my car has not been taxed since 2010 (and not declared sorn). The car has been sitting on my drive in my new house since then and now I want to get it back on the road. However, I am afraid that if I get it MOTd, insured and taxed they will backdate the tax to 2010. Is this the case? Presumably if they did send me letters they would have gone to my old house. What re my options here?

Thanks

I assume that you also failed to register your car to your new address in 2010.

Contact DVLA and be honest with them. Explain the circumstances and see what they say.
I would be reluctant to give any details as to names, addresses or VRM's just to be on the safe side - but that's just me.

Actually, you've just reminded me, the address on the V5 is my new address, I did change it after moving here (not sure when). So maybe they just didn't send any reminders.

You get a tax disc reminder every year just the same and would've had to re-sorn it. Don't think you're liable for back tax but you would be liable for a fine unless you can talk your way out of it.

All changes soon though so you do only have to do it once.

could you SORN it now online.

Once that's done and logged onto the system, you could then change your mind and tax it online.
