Taxi nearly 1 million miles

Genuine question. What is it with driving a car to such high miles. Frugality, the challenge of doing the distance or like old cars? I’m assuming you did not put all the miles on the cars.

I usually get bored with a car after a couple of years (also why I frequently change brands) but with my SLK (which was a daily driver) and now my SL, I just never get bored driving it.
Some I did , some I bought them used and added mown miles ; often buying at 5-0100K then adding another 200K of my own . It is a bit of everything you posted .

Some of my cars I've actually bought with more miles than the Enterprise!......people are still (often wrongly IMO) scared of the leggy stuff.....like it was still 1975 when 100,000 mile cars on one engine was a rare thing to happen. Because of this you can often buy them cheap as chips....often with a fair to good history. Most have been looked after to get that far of course. My current car has 170,000 miles an runs like new. My wife's last 1999 SLK was bought as high miles (about 50,000 miles at two years old!!).....but since she only does two or three thousand a years (we use mine as the family car) when we sold it about 3 years ago it was a low mileage car!! Her current 16 year old A Class is the same....was highish miles when we bought it....but now at about 70k its one of the lower miles ones for the age....mint too!! I looked at a 110,000 mile 212 E63 6.2 recently......cheap car.....but even Im not sure that I'm feeling that brave!!

Recently saw a couple of the latest shape Sprinter vans for sale on a commercial vehicle auction house website. 2018 and 2019 model year with 400,000 and 500,000 miles on them respectively. Both vans must have been in almost constant use since they rolled off the production line. Engines sounded fine on the sellers website.

Many years ago I looked at a 1 year old Vauxhall Omega with 250,000 miles on the clock !!! It was owned by a oil company and spent 24 hours a day transporting legal documents between Aberdeen and Portsmouth. Even at 3 and half grand I bricked it. Really should have given it a go !

Just got rid of my old insignia, 2014 2.0 diesel 240,000 miles for less than £900 to we buy any car.......
