TFSi and S-Tronic

Yes. Different engine

IRRC its a funny sort of reverse arrangement with a "toothed "chain and recessed hollows in the camshaft wheels - a sort of metal version of a cambelt is perhaps the best way to describe it. No idea of the wear characteristics :dk: but reputed to be quieter than conventional chain links and sprocket wheels :)

Sounds like a Hy-Vo chain. Very common on motorcycle engines.

I have the 7 speed S Tronic on my A7 3.0 TDi and it is very good indeed.

The one thing that stands out though is how much more efficient it is than a normal auto slush box.

Even though my engine is less powerful (both on the BHP front and torque) than my C350 the performance figures are pretty much the same which considering the car is bigger and heavier AND has four wheel drive is going some. At the same time emissions are lower and MPG is better. This is all down to gearbox efficiencies alone.

Changes are very smooth yet in sports mode it plays hard and is a lot of fun

Can't say I have noticed any issues with hill starts

Obviously this is with a different engine to what the OP is looking at but the gearbox technology is the same. Very impressed
